First up:  Why Doesn’t My Site Look Like the Demo?  Building With the Genesis Framework

The Genesis Framework from StudioPress is one of the easiest and most flexible WordPress theme tools out there.  However, to get the most out of it, a little overview can be helpful.   In this 45-minute overview, we will cover the basic building blocks of the Genesis Framework, and look at how to implement one of their child themes for your own site.   We’ll review some of the most helpful plugins for Genesis, as well as look at the different ways people have been making sites using this flexible framework.

Do you have any questions or child themes you’d like us to address in advance?  Just leave a comment.

Next:  WordPress Theme Development Basics

If you are a designer or developer learning how to build WordPress sites, this theme overview will help you figure out how to do things “The WordPress Way”.   This 45-minute session is appropriate for people comfortable working with WordPress theme files directly.  We will cover the WordPress data model, basic structure of a theme, how to create widget areas, and how to make page templates for your posts, categories, images and more.  This is an introduction to Anca’s 5-week theme and plugin development workshop coming in January 2013.
