So, now everybody with a WordPress website has to upgrade their mail security to something called SMTP. And what is that, anyone would ask? SMTP stands for Simple Mail Transfer Protocol. Basically it's a communication protocol used for sending and receiving email messages over the internet. Often your site will just stop sending emails from your contact form because it is deemed insecure.
Our first step is for me to install a free plugin called WP Mail SMTP (https://wpmailsmtp.com/). Instead of using the default WordPress email function (which often has deliverability issues), the WP Mail SMTP plugin steps in to handle the email delivery. But it requires a setup. I can do this; however, we need user/password for your email account. But you can also do this yourself:
- Login to the admin area of your WordPress website
- Go to the Dashboard
- Scroll down to WP Mail SMTP in the Black sidebar
- Click “settings”
- Click Resolve your email sending issues with SendLayer
- This will take you to the “Create Your SendLayer account.”
- Set up the account using the admin email on the account (preferably one that uses your domain).
- Once connected, SendLayer will automatically configure your account and display a confirmation message.
- After closing the popup, you’ll be redirected to your WP Mail SMTP settings. Your SendLayer connection will already be configured, including your domain and API key.
